Examinations

Exams are not compulsory in the CDS curriculum. We do, however, highly recommend exams as a way for students to set personal goals, to gauge their performance and to achieve internationally recognized qualifications.

Exams for British Ballet Organization are held annually at the start of the March school holidays.

Exams for Instituto de la Danza Española are held annually in November.

In order to prepare adequately for exams, students do need to commit to regular attendance of classes, learning the required syllabus (practical and theory) and attending additional exam preparation sessions.

General Exam Attire

All examination candidates are expected to dress neatly in the required uniform (see below). All clothing and footwear should be clean.

Leather shoes (include ballet shoes) can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Suede shoes can be cleaned with a soft, shoe brush. Satin pointe shoes can be refreshed by applying calamine lotion to the shoe.

It is recommend that students wear either a pair of skin-coloured, high-cut underwear or no underwear at all, so that their underwear does not show under their leotard. All jewellery (including earrings and anklets) must be removed for all examinations.

Please note that exams are like a performance, hence the need for clean and neat clothing in reasonably good condition.

Hair should be in a flat, classical bun secured firmly with a fine hair net and bun pins. Fringes and wisps of hair should be combed back with gel or hairspray and secured with hair pins if necessary. I recommend leaving hair slightly dirty as this makes it more manageable. Hair bands, coloured hairpins and other hair accessories are not allowed. All hair nets, elastics and pins should match your child's hair colour.
